HOW TO PAY

(£) Sterling payments

With certain exceptions, listed below, all payments must be made in pounds sterling - foreign currency is generally not acceptable due to the high handling charges made by the banks. Sterling payments can be made in cash, by cheque drawn on a British bank, postal order, international money order or standing order (if a British bank account is held). A standing order form is available from the Membership secretary for those wishing to use this method of payment (the standing order payment date is 1st January each year). All cheques should be made payable to Association for Environmental Archaeology.

Exceptions to sterling payments

We are aware that overseas members may find it difficult or expensive to pay in sterling. In such circumstances we will accept foreign currencies under the following conditions, but note that foreign currency cheques are not acceptable.

Eurozone members – IBAN payment:

If you are living in the Eurozone, you may be interested in paying AEA membership fees using the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) electronic transfer system. With this system, an AEA member can go to their local bank and transfer money to an AEA account for a small fee.

The AEA has set up a bank account in the Republic of Ireland to enable payment of membership fees using this method. Your bank's charge for payment will vary, depending on the bank and country, but the fee should be low (for example, some banks in the Republic of Ireland charge around €0.75 – check your local bank for their rates). AEA membership fees for IBAN transfers are: €50 waged and €37 student/unwaged .

If you would like to use this method of payment, please contact the AEA Secretary, Meriel McClatchie ( meriel.mcclatchie@gmail.com ) for further information.

Non-UK members – Credit card payment:

Payment by Visa can be made by non-UK members only.

For reasons of security, the AEA do not hold members' Visa details. Members using this method of payment must therefore confirm payment each year, providing their payment details each time. Credit card details should not be sent via email.

If you would like to use this method of payment, please see the memnership form (above) for further information.

Cash

Add the equivalent of £2.00 to your amount to cover bank handling rates. The amount should be calculated at the current foreign exchange rate.
